Palisades Romance: Gift Ideas For Your Valentine

Local retailers have suggestions on how to win over your sweetheart this year.

If you seek the classic gift of flowers, or a more daring option (like a helicopter ride), we've got a few suggestions to help you win over your sweetheart.

Blossoming Love

15321 W. Sunset Blvd., Pacific Palisades

Before you head out to the florist to wait in a long line and pay hundreds for red roses, listen up. Palisades Flowers Manager Manal Karin has a tip that will impress your Valentine, but won't make a huge dent in your wallet.

"Don't get traditional red roses. Get a mixed bouquet with roses and other stuff," says Karin. "You get more for your money that way because red roses are the most expensive thing."

Karin says a mixed bouquet at Palisades Flowers ranges from $75 and up.

Pali Patch also asked Karin about the color of the roses you choose. Some say there are meanings behind each shade. Karin says no one really follows the meaning behind the colors anymore, just choose what you like.

Finally, Karin suggests that you plan ahead. She says to call your florist at least a day before so that you can just come in and pick up your arrangement.

To order from Palisades Flowers, call 310-454-8027.

Baker's Lovin'

857 Via de la Paz, Pacific Palisades

If you'd like to entice your honey with cupcakes, tarts and cakes—to let them know how sweet you think they really are—visit Scarlett's Cupcakes on Via de la Paz.

Owner Susan Payne is not only featuring little cakes frosted with messages of love, she is also offering up lemon meringue and pecan tarts on Tuesday.

Scroll through some of the photos above to window shop for your sweet selection.

To order cupcakes, call 310-454-0290.

The staff at Scarlett's Cupcakes asks for a 24 hour notice for most items and 48 hours for a cake, but will do their best to accommodate you if you need baked goods stat!

The Scent of Romance

540 Palisades Dr., Pacific Palisades

Don't underestimate the power of an intangible gift … like a good massage. The Palisades Compounding Pharmacy suggests you pamper your true love with aromatherapy, which, according to the pharmacy website, is "guaranteed to be less fattening than a box of chocolates."

The pharmacy suggests the following romantic oils:

  • Rose Otto
  • Rose Absolute
  • Jasmine Absolute
  • Ylang Ylang
  • Patchouli
  • Vetiver
  • Mandarin Orange

The pharmacy website also offers up a "recipe" for a Red Roses and Jasmine Soak. Imagine surprising your loved one with a warm, relaxing and romantic bath!

For the Cool Operator

873 Swarthmore Ave., Pacific Palisades

If all the romance is heating up, cool down with a "free cup of love" at The Yogurt Shoppe on Swarthmore Avenue. The shop is offering a yogurt cup filled with Valentine's Day chocolates wrapped in a cellophane bag and tied with a ribbon. The cup of love is free with a gift card purchase of $15 or more.

The Yogurt Shoppe is also seeking a Valentine! If you come in with a card just for the shop, you will get $1 off your order. So, declare your love and you'll get some sweet savings in return.

Love is in the Air

Orbic Air

Looking to impress your Valentine in a big way? The answer is right up in the clouds! Orbic Air Helicopter Tours is offering a number of helicopter packages designed specifically for Valentine's Day. The tours fly couples to romantic views of Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica and Marina del Rey.

There are a range of couples packages, which include a helicopter ride, rooftop lounge access and even picnic options.

For those looking for love this Valentine's Day, Orbic is offering a "Cupid's Tour Package," which is for singles only. Perhaps romance will blossom high above the city lights!

Finally, it doesn't matter how much you spend, or how adventurous the gift, just remember to tell your Valentine how much he or she means to you each day.

Happy Valentine's!
