In the Media: Elections, Banksy, 2010 Census, Dennis Quaid's House, African Adventure

Patch brings you five things you need to know from around the Internet in this media roundup.

1. The population of Los Angeles County grew by 3.1 percent over the past decade, far slower than other Southern California counties, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures released Tuesday. The county remains the most populous in the state, with about 9.8 million residents, according to the Census Bureau. The city of Los Angeles has a population of about 3.8 million. California's overall population rose 10 percent from 33.8 million in 2000 to 37.2 million in 2010, according to the Census Bureau.

2. Patch brought you live coverage of the Los Angeles municipal election on Tuesday. Read about the results here. We visited the American Legion polling place on La Cruz Drive to get your reactions to the ballot measures and to the candidates running for office.

3. The Melrose & Fairfax street art blog reported that British street artist Banksy caused a man to become homeless. An abandoned water tank that sat on the edge of PCH in Pacific Palisades was stenciled with the words "This Looks a Bit Like an Elephant" sometime in February. The tank, which was apparently used by a homeless man to sleep in, was recently removed. In September, the Palisades Post reported about a conflict between the homeless man, Tachowa Covington, and the Pacific Palisades Community Council and Pacific Palisades Residents Association over what the organizations are calling leftover construction debris.

4. Actor Dennis Quaid has put his 8,400-square-foot Pacific Palisades home on sale for $16.9 million. The L.A. Times reported that the house sits on 2 acres of land and includes a main house and guest house with eight rooms and nine bathrooms, a gym, swimming pool, spa, a corral and a barn.

5. Palisades resident Clara Sekowski has been blogging on Global Citizen Year's website about her post-high school, diplomatic trip to Senegal, Africa. The trip is part of an apprenticeship in public health. Global Citizen year partners with U.S. high schools and global nongovernmental organizations to facilitate learning abroad experiences for high school graduates in their "bridge year" before college. Check out Sekowski's Vimeo page to see videos of her trip.
