Church Members Mix Fun, Fellowship and Fundraising

Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church raises money for programs by mixing fun and fellowship.

Monday was a day of mingling and mulligans as members of the Pacific Palisades Presbyterian Church met at MountainGate Country Club for their first golf tournament fundraiser.

The committee in charge of the tournament wanted to come up with an original idea to raise money for church programs, according to committee member Amy Berggreen.

“We put our heads together and we came up with the idea,” Berggreen said. “It’s been absolutely fabulous. The weather is amazing and the fellowship is off the charts.”

The tournament included 18 holes of golf at scenic MountainGate Country Club in Brentwood, a barbecue lunch and an awards ceremony.

Berggreen’s twin sister, Lois Berggreen, and Lynn Anderson spent the day sitting in the shade monitoring the sixth hole on the Lake Course.

“We’re the independent witnesses for the hole-in-one,” Anderson said. “If anyone happens to make this shot, they win $25,000, but so far no one has come close.”

Hole six is a bit tricky with water guarding the front and bunkers guarding the front, right and back sides of the green.

Pastor Dan Hagmaier was the first golfer of the day to come close to sinking the shot when his ball cleared the water and rolled onto the green within 10 yards of the hole.

“Was I excited? Oh, my gosh, was Rocky excited when he won that big championship? Yes, of course,” Hagmaier said.

The pastor said that everyone was having a good time, but more important they were supporting a good cause.

“The money will all go to the mission and vision of the Presbyterian Church, helping young people change their lives forever and to make a difference in our community in the Palisades,” Hagmaier said.

Anderson said that while she wasn’t golfing herself, she was having a great time watching everyone else.

“I think it’s going very well. Everyone is coming through here with a smile,” she said. “I wasn’t sure, because we’ve never done a golf tournament before, but everyone is having such a good time that I think it will become an annual thing now.”
