Advocacy Group Backs Angelenos Who Prefer Foot Traffic

Los Angeles Walks is the first citywide advocacy group to push for pedestrian safety, says an LAist report.

Los Angeles is known for horrendous traffic on the roads. The city is also known for not being so kind to folks who trade in fancy tires for good old sneakers. As LAist put it in a recent report, "Los Angeles has a deadly reputation for pedestrians."

According to the LAist report, Los Angeles Walks is the first-ever citywide pedestrian advocacy group. LAist quoted the group's mission in the article, stating that there are many advocacy groups for bikers, but not walkers.

last July about how Pacific Palisades ranked 87th out of 95 Los Angeles communities for "walkability." The Walk Score evaluation put Pali at a poor ranking due to the proximity to amenities in the neighborhood. Since Palisadians need a car or bike to get from the Village to the beach, or from restaurants in the Highlands to shops in the Village, the area was determined to be quite car-dependent.
