Taste Raises Funds for LBGTQ Advocacy

Palisades restaurant Taste holds a silent auction to benefit the Trevor Project.

Palisades restaurant Taste held a silent auction to raise funds for LBGTQ advocacy group the Trevor Project on Thursday.

The Trevor Project's goal is to end suicide among lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgendered and queer youth by providing vital support services such as educational groups and a 24-hour suicide prevention hotline. The group also advocates at schools for the creation of safe spaces where teens can be free of harassment aimed at their sexual preference.

The Trevor Project gained media attention in 2010 for its advocacy of LBGTQ youth. A rash of teen suicides affirmed what many had already known: Schools are ill-equipped to facilitate the needs of bullied teens.
