Shoppe Till You Drop!

Our columnist cuts to the front of the line to get you the inside "scoop" on the new frozen yogurt place in town.

The verdict is in: The Yogurt Shoppe on Swarthmore Avenue, co-owned by, Kevin Sabin, is a smash hit...if the line around the block for the opening day was any indication.

On Saturday afternoon, free hefty-sized samples in large pint-sized cartons were available for all comers. People of all shapes and sizes––from little kids to grown ups––were either licking their chops in anticipation or pigging out on the irresistible generous portions of various flavors of yogurt and help yourself topping bar, while listening to the  upbeat music (Beach Boys, etc.) from DJ Paul Tennen of Infared Empire.

The decor is a personal favorite of mine: powder blue retro bar stools, flanked with large black and white vintage photos of Pacific Palisades that pay tribute to the vast history of our fair town.

Wednesday, February 9 will be the big day as the store kicks into high gear for real. So get your palettes ready. And Sabin may have started a trend.  When Mick Hoiles, owner of Mick’s Cafe a few doorsteps down on Swarthmore, heard about the Yogurt Shoppe's freebies, it got him thinking about giving away a free cup of coffee. (Although that’s not official yet.) Hmm, keep brainstorming, guys. I think I can get into this...
