Il Piccolo Ritrovo Brings Unique Pizza Oven to Pali

The Italian trattoria opened in late 2012 replacing J's Trattoria in Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades.

In case you missed the closing of J's Trattoria last fall at 15414 Sunset Blvd. in Pacific Palisades, the Italian trattoria Il Piccolo Ritrovo came in and did a complete overhaul, including installing a $25,000 wood-burning oven that fires at 1,000 degrees and cooks a pizza pie in 90 seconds, reported EaterLA.

According to its website, owners Tarcisio Mosconi and Nando Silvestri were looking to bring as much of their Italian roots to Pacific Palisades as possible, priding themselves in sharing the enticing flavors brought to America by authentic Italian cuisine. They claim the restaurant's oven was handmade by the Marra Family in Naples using sand and ash from Mt. Vesuvio, which allows for the extreme heat.

They reportedly brought in chef Elder Ramirez who prepared a lengthy menu filled with both Neapolitan and NY-style pizzas, and somewhat standard appetizers. The restaurant offers wine by the bottle and glass, as well as a dinner and lunch menu.
