Gelson's Grocery Chain Could Be Sold

Arden Group Inc., the upscale grocery store's parent, is exploring the sale of the chain. It operates one of its 16 chains in Pacific Palisades.

Upscale grocery chain Gelson's Markets could be sold, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In a statement released Monday, the store's parent, Arden Group Inc., said it would "explore and evaluate strategic alternatives, which may include a possible sale," the Times reported.

An editor for Supermarket Guru told KPPC that Gelson's simply has not kept up with its competition in Southern California, such as with Whole Foods, as well as the rapidly shifting Los Angeles grocery market.

The store has 16 locations in the Southland, including one in Pacific Palisades.
