Ann's Bakeworks at the Farmers Market Is Superb

Ann Arens has been selling her tasty treats at the local farmers market for the past six years.

From quiches to unbelievable brownies, one bite of Ann Arens's delicious baked goods and you’re hooked for life.

Arens has been selling her treats at the Palisades Farmers Market for six years and by 11 a.m. on Sunday, they’re usually sold out.

Growing up around her mother and grandmother, who both made candy and baked, Arens had a front row seat on how to bake knockout food. From them, Arens learned that to create quality food she needed to take her work very seriously and only use the best ingredients. In the pursuit of handcrafted perfection, Arens refuses to skimp on anything.

One of her standout items is the quiche, which is truly a gem in Pacific Palisades. There are three types; famous Quiche Lorraine, spinach quiche and mushroom quiche. Arens makes her own all-butter crust, a real rarity in today’s cafés. She is very adamant about how to store this savory egg concoction.

“Never freeze a quiche,” Arens said. “It changes the texture.”

Other areas of Ann’s Bakeworks are sweet breads such as banana bread and also a variety of muffins, toffee, cupcakes and brownies. The fudgy brownies are dense and come either with or without nuts in flavors such as espresso or turtle brownie, which goes back to Arens’s candy making days and features irresistible layers of brownie, caramel chocolate, nuts and chocolate sprinkles.

Notable of Ann’s Bakeworks is the diversity of flavors as well as the packaging of her products. A former career in corporate media has given Arens the expertise on how to visually attract people to her edible items. A retro-inspired logo of a lady holding a spoon illustrates her old-time, home-style baking.

The energetic purveyor of deliciousness continuously challenges herself to have the best products available for her customers. She finds recipes and then adapts them to her own tastes to create a product that she can be proud to offer customers.

The best part of being in business at the Palisades Farmers Market “is the personal interaction with customers” she has at the beautiful outdoor location, Arens said.

“I’ve seen families grow,” she said.

Arens has successfully turned her passion of baking and her natural penchant of serving people with a smile into a second career and I’m glad she did.

Now you know my secret—the main reason I go to the farmers market is to see Ann’s smiles and relish her amazing food.
