Make Summer about Father and Son
I hope every dad has the opportunity to get away and back to nature with their children.
Every year, my 10-year-old son, Chase, and I pack up and head out of Los Angeles for the great outdoors. The trips have been some of the most fun and important moments for relationship-building for us. Not to mention, it's about the only time I get Chase's full attention away from video games, TV and his cell phone.
We've made it a point to always go to the "Father & Son Ranch Weekend," which originated as a benefit for Palisades Elementary. And I will never forget the those times with Chase. The V6 Ranch is only three hours outside of Los Angeles in Parkfield, but it's light years away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life we get so wrapped up in as Southern Californian parents.
Chase and I have been visiting V6 since he was 5 and he loves it. I hope every dad has the opportunity to get away and back to nature with their children. Between the bonding and the excitement -- like the time we hunted wild boar on the ranch -- they are all some of the most memorable moments I've had.
Listening to the coyotes under the stars around the campfire ... it doesn't get any better than that.
