Schwarzenegger Getting the Stan Lee Treatment

The former governor takes on a new role as a super hero in a TV series and comic book.

Spider-Man comic creator Stan Lee has mined the larger-than-life story of former Palisadian resident and  governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as his new muse.

The animated TV series and comic book coming in 2012, aptly titled The Governator, centers on Schwarzenegger and will also feature his wife, Maria Shriver, and their family.

Los Angeles resident Stan Lee—a prolific author, editor, producer, super hero creator, former CEO of Marvel Comics and frequent guest star in film and television—told Entertainment Weekly that the series will closely follow Schwarzenegger's life.

“We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife. We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor," said Lee. "Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”

Schwarzenegger's real life is the stuff of super hero legends. Hailing from a small town in Austria, his aspirations and drive took him to the U.S. where he excelled at nearly every endeavor he tackled: bodybuilding, acting and, ultimately, winning the votes of Californians.

Regardless of how people feel about Schwarzenegger's politics or political performance, most everyone can agree in times of disaster, the former governor was always front and center leading the charge with fire departments, first-responders and state authorities to help Californians.

“The word governator combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon] brings everything together," Schwarzenegger told EW. "It combines the governor, The Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the True Lies . . .”

The animated series will incorporate takeoffs on Schwarzenegger's infamous quotes, such as the evil organization Lee created for The Governator called the Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-Cons, or G.I.R.L.I.E. Men for short. Child cyber-security experts, a cave where The Governator's gadgets are stored and special "super suits" are just some of the fun Lee has in store.

“I love the idea of a control center below my house with a path so that boats and submarines can go right into the ocean," Schwarzenegger told EW. "In the cartoon, my house is much closer to the beach than where we live, but, you know, it’s a cartoon.”
