Moose, the Band, Rocks the Palisades Community Expo

Westside-based band made up of kids ages 7 to 11 play huge hits in Pacific Palisades.

What do you get with a four-member rock band with each member under 12 and playing a diverse range of hits from Herbie Hancock to Jimi Hendrix to Led Zeppelin? One heck of a show.

Westside-based band Moose rocked the Pacific Palisades Community Expo on Sunday, May 5, playing the hit "School's Out." Watch their performance on this YouTube video.

The four band members are the Golub brothers Leo, 11, Ezra, 9, and Judah, 7, and Clyde Crooks, 11. Leo is on bass and vocals; Ezra is on guitar and vocals; Judah is on drums and Clyde played keyboard.

The Golubs are recent migrants from the Westside to the Valley. Crooks lives in Silver Lake and Sunday's guest singer, Kalani Hildebrand, 11, lives on the Westside. Her father, Patrick Hildebrand Jr. and his father, Patrick Sr. own the Amazing Music Store in Pacific Palisades and organized the music for this event. The store has been in the Palisades for many years and where many locals have learned to play.

"If we start playing as a band together this young, when we grow up we're going to be a lot better than we would otherwise," said Ezra.

Leo and Ezra were part of an earlier band called "The Ghouls" who played several shows in Mar Vista, including at the Mar Vista Farmer's Market and the Santa Monica Summer Soulstice.

"It's really great to go up on the stage and have some fun and make other people's day," Leo said. "It's a good feeling."

Judah was the drummer for a band called, "The Bad Boyz" that also played a number of shows, including at Santa Monica's National Night Out.

"It's an opportunity for me to play music, which I love to do," Judah added about playing for Moose.

Moose got together as a band when the Golubs moved to Tarzana and couldn't keep up rehearsals with their Mar Vista bandmates. The brothers formed a new band together and brought in Clyde and Kalani, friends from their synagogue.
