Affleck's 'Argo' Wins, Spielberg Denied Director's Oscar

Although eclipsed by fellow Pacific Palisades resident Ben Affleck's "Argo" in the best picture category, Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" nonetheless won some recognition.

Pacific Palisades was well-represented on Oscar night when resident Ben Affleck's "Argo" won for best picture on Sunday.

And while fellow Palisadian Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" may have been shut out in the best picture category and his third best director Oscar remains elusive, his film won some vindiction when its star Daniel Day-Lewis was selected for best actor.

Spielberg maintains one of his homes in Pacific Palisades with his wife Kate Capshaw. Affleck now lives in Pacific Palisades with his wife Jennifer Garner and their children.

Although "Argo" won for best picture, Affleck wasn't nominated as best director. The movie picked up three Oscars, including for film editing and best adapted screenplay.

George Clooney as producer shared the best picture award with Affleck.

"Life of Pi" won the most Oscars of the night, winning in four categories, including best director for Ang Lee. 

Jennifer Lawrence won for best actress for "Silver Linings Playbook."
