Video: Local Mom Wins Trophies at Regional Karate Tournament

Palisadian Tamar Springer earns three trophies at a tournament in Alabama.

Tamar Springer is not just a mother of two and a savvy business woman, she is a competitive brown belt at in Pacific Palisades.

Springer says when she started taking karate over two years ago, she never imagined competing. But in November, she came home from the World Yoshukai's annual Southern Regional National Tournament in Alabama with three trophies.

Springer, whose kids go to , is a long-time Palisadian. She is also a licensed psychotherapist and mediator, with a 13-year-old private practice in Brentwood. And if that isn't enough to fill up the calendar, Springer started a holiday gift shop, inspired by a song her father composed entitled "Santa Baby."

But even with all the things that keep Springer busy, her instructors say she is focused and one of their most dedicated students.
