'Vet of the Year' Is Pacific Palisades Man, Retired UCLA Prof and Veteran of 3 Wars

Assemblymember Richard Bloom, D-Santa Monica, honored this week Colonel Richard Alan Littlestone at the 7th annual Annual Assembly Veterans Recognition Luncheon.

Colonel Littlestone joined the Army in 1943. His service spanned 32 years and three wars, including World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. During his time in the military, he served at West Point as Assistant Professor and Department Executive Officer in the Department of Mathematics.

He also served at the University of California, Los Angeles as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Military Service. After retiring from the armed forces, Colonel Littlestone remained at UCLA and dedicated his career to university and public school teaching and broad community service. 

Colonel Littlestone resides in Pacific Palisades with his wife of 66 years, Doris. They have three children and two grandchildren. 

Richard Bloom chairs the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Natural Resources and Transportation. He represents California’s 50th Assembly District, which comprises the communities of Agoura Hills, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Hollywood, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Topanga, West Hollywood, 
and West Los Angeles.
