Top 5 Westside Stories: 'Douchey' Venice, LAPD Chase, Politics, Silent Fireworks and Irv's Burgers

Here are some of the Westside's most popular stories from the past week.

Close out your weekend with a recap of the newsiest and most popular Patch articles from the week. Here are the five stories that topped the headlines on Westside Patch sites:

Venice Makes 'Douchiest Neighborhoods' List: Dennis Romero of LA Weekly anointed the city to this unflattering list. Among Romero's douche-signals are people who drive a leased German car you can't afford, because it's certainly not a Volkswagen. Your hair has more product than Costco. You constantly post about your models-and-bottles nightclub exploits on Facebook.”

LAPD Helicopters Pursue Reckess Driver Racing Home in Pali:
Readers of Pacific Palisades Patch checked into Facebook and told us about choppers chasing a seemingly wayward Mercedes-Benz. One reader sent in video. The driver didn't know he was being followed by LAPD helicopter, and it turns out he was rushing home to see his sick wife. No accidents, no injuries.

No Fourth of July Fireworks in Culver City: Renovations to Culver City High's stadium and field have caused the Exchange Club to cancel fireworks for 2013. Exchange Club President Bruce Popkin said the fireworks at the field could not go ahead during renovations and there simply was no other venue large enough. The fireworks will return next year.

Former Malibu Mayor Targets Supervisor Seat: Pamela Conley Ulich wants "to bring honesty, sanity and democracy to LA County’s 3rd District", announcing her run for a spot on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in 2014. Ulich said she was inspired by 11-year-old Dylan Strickland, who lives down the street from Conley Ulich in Malibu.

Irv's Burgers Reaches Out to Residents for Help: A burger shack that's served Weho for 63 years faces the prospect of closure, and the owners have asked for support through the eatery's website. On the website is text to help patrons and other backers craft a letter to a list of various city officials.
