Self-Realization Fellowship Brings Sri Mrinalini Mata Aboard as New Spiritual Leader

The organization selects Mrinalini, vice president since 1966, to succeed longtime Fellowship leader Sri Daya Mata, who died in 2010.

Lake Shrine announced Tuesday that Sri Mrinalini Mata, who became a Self-Realization nun at the age of 15 and has been vice president of the organization since 1966, was elected president last week by its eight-member board of directors. She succeeds Sri Daya Mata, the group's longtime leader, who died in November, and becomes only the fourth leader of the center, which was founded in 1920.

With Mrinalini, 79, aboard as the new spiritual leader, the fellowship will continue to be led by a woman, and by a direct disciple of its founder, Paramahansa Yogananda, an Indian yogi credited with helping to popularize meditation and yoga in the West.
