Pali Preps for Second Annual 'Spooktacular'

A trick or treat path, reptile show, petting zoo and concession stand sales are new this year. There's a fee for the haunted house and unlimited access to the bounce houses.

Coming off a 700-plus attendence in 2011, the second annual "Spooktacular" haunts the Palisades Recreation Center this Saturday afternoon.

It's from 3 to 7 p.m. and features a friendly haunted house, trick-or-treat path, carnival games, a pumpkin patch, reptile and petting zoo, spooky haunted house and much more.

The parks advisory board added the trick or treat path, reptile show and petting zoo for the kids this year, along with selling food hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks. According to Senior Recreation Director, they are also charging for carnival games and entrance into the haunted house. Children may play any carnival game for free, but if they want to win prizes, they must purchase a game punch card. Haas noted they are also charging a fee for unlimited access to all three bounce houses, which will be located on the baseball fields.

The pumpkin patch and arts and crafts tables are back, and are free. There's also a DJ.

"The haunted house was a huge success," Haas said in an e-mail. "The line stretched down to the baseball field last year."  We had over 700 + in attendance and most stayed the entire 4 hours of the event.  This is a great community building event.

Board member Susan McInerney is leading in organizing and gaining local sponsors for this event. Volunteers are also needed, and she can be reached at sbmcinerney@yahoo.com.
