More Marquez Elementary Classes to Move to Bungalows

Engineers from LAUSD are studying the land movement to ensure the building is safe.

More classes at Marquez Elementary School will need to move into temporary bungalows to let engineers from Los Angeles Unified School District to continue studying the land movement to ensure the school building affected by the landslide is safe, the school announced. Three classes have already moved into portable buildings, and six are still in the building.

The seven bungalows have been ordered and permits are in the process to place them on the upper yard of the school, principal Emily Williams said in the newsletter sent to parents. The estimated timeline for students to move into the bungalows is April.

The school has formed a subcommittee consisted of a teacher, a parent volunteer and the PTA president to coordinate the move and work with the district for a smooth transition.

There will be a meeting with the district’s engineering and operations teams at 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 31 for concerned parents to have their questions answered. The meeting will be held in the school’s staff lounge.
