Marquez Knolls Celebrates Annual Block Party

Residents crowd the sidewalks of the local business district Sunday for the festivities.

The Marquez Knolls Property Owners Association held its Annual Block Party on Sunday afternoon in the Marquez Business District. All of Pacific Palisades was welcomed to attend the event, co-sponsored by ACS Security.

"Approximately 15 businesses are participating and we're expecting to see anywhere from 200 to 300 people today," Christy Dennis, the new president of MKPOA, said before the event began. "We love the Palisades so much, we try to put this on for fun and to keep people active in the community."

MKPOA has organized the block party for the past 25 years, and this was the third year it was held in the business district rather than on school grounds.

"It gets more people involved having it on the street," Dennis said.

The festivities featured activities and entertainment such as Whirlie the Clown, Balloon Art, free hot dogs, a Doggy Costume Contest and the Alper Jazz Band, a performance that also featured band leader Greg Alper's young music students.

"The real hit is when the kids are going to join us and play some jazz," Alper said before his group went up.

An appearance was also made by LA City Councilman Bill Rosendahl. For more information and how to get involved with MKPOA, visit its website.
