Blessing of the Animals

Pet lovers and owners!  Come bring your pets, friends and cameras!  There will be a "Blessing of the Animals" at Palisades Lutheran Church on Sunday, September 25th, at 3pm - in the patio by the fountain.

The "Blessing of the Animals" is traditionally associated with St. Francis of Assisi, an Italian Catholic friar and preacher who founded the Franciscan Order, and one of the most venerated religious figures in history.  It was he who arranged for the first Christmas manger scenes.  It is perhaps for this reason that St. Francis is regarded worldwide as the patron saint of animals and the environment.  It is customary for Catholic and Anglican churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals on  or near  his feast day of October 4th.  This year a Lutheran church joins in - this one in this town.

Pastor Walter H. Mees, Jr. , who will be officiating along with Director of Youth and Family Ministry, Daryl Lohmeyer, over this festive and first "Blessing of the Animals" event at Palisades Lutheran,  personally invites "all to come" on  Sunday, September 25th, at 3pm.   He says, "no pet is too large or too small to be blessed, though cages for some may be appropriate for their own protection."
