Cold Front Doused Coastal Areas

The quick-moving winter storm brings rain to the coast areas and snow to the mountains.

More than a quarter inch of rain fell in the South Bay by midmorning Saturday, according to unofficial automated rain gauges.

Los Angeles County Department of Public Works sensors reported .29 inches of rain at Manhattan Beach, .27 inches at El Segundo, and .22 on the Palos Verdes Peninsula by 10:30 a.m.

Other significant rain amounts included .24 near Sylmar, .16 near Marina del Rey, and .12 at Malibu Canyon and Big Rock Mesa, in Malibu.

Several stations in the San Gabriel Mountains reported .09 inches of rain, but those totals will not include precipitation in the form of snow.
