Yogurt Shoppe Raises Funds for the Friends of the Library

The store's owners present a check for $1,339.95 to help the local branch as part of their ongoing charitable sponsorship program.

The first round of a charitable effort has borne fruit as The Yogurt Shoppe owners Clive Lewis and Kevin Sabin presented a check Monday in the amount of $1,339.95 to the Friends of the Palisades Library.

Alice Inglis, president of the Friends group and Laurel Garver, its treasurer, received the check on behalf of the organization.

“We are amazed by the amount,” said Garver. “The library plans to buy books, maintain property and help fund a computer person to assist library visitors with the machines. We have even been known to help out inner city branches.”

This first round is part of an ongoing program in which The Yogurt Shoppe donates 15 percent of its sales during the hours of 5 to 7 p.m. to various organizations.

“We really wanted to give back to the community, which is why we started the program,” said Lewis.

From September through January, The Yogurt Shoppe will sponsor a school or organization for two consecutive weeks each. All schools within a two-mile radius as well as organizations like AYSO are welcome to participate in the fundraiser.
