19 Pacific Palisades Girl Scouts Earn Bronze Awards

Girl scouts collect gently used Halloween costumes, and clean and repair them for social service agency Hollygrove.

Pacific Palisades Girl Scout Troop 2585 recently completed their bronze award project benefiting the kids at Hollygrove, a children’s services agency that has been in Hollywood for more than 100 years.

The 19 fourth and fifth grade junior scouts, mostly students from Marquez Elementary School and St. Matthew's Parish School according to Troop Leader Helene Dameris, collected gently used Halloween costumes, then cleaned and repaired them before distributing the costumes at Hollygrove’s annual Halloween party on Oct. 20.

About 150 kids, all recovering from crisis, abuse, neglect and mental and behavioral issues went home with a "new" costume to wear for trick-or-treating.

The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest award that can be earned by a Junior Girl Scout and represents a significant service project undertaken by the girls. Dameris said the silver award and gold award come next.
