Englander urges all of the city's Neighborhood Councils to take a position on the ordinance.

By Mitchell Englander, Councilmember, Twelfth District The peace and safety of your neighborhood is the single most important measure of quality of life in our community, and my top priority is to help preserve and protect it. The City’s proposed Community Care Facility Ordinance has the singular purpose of preserving peace and safety in our neighborhoods. After numerous public hearings in the L.A. City Council’s Planning and Land Use Management Committee (PLUM), long deliberations, and dozens of hours of public comment from a range of interested groups and community members, the Community Care Facilities Ordinance was sent on to the full City Council for consideration. I urge every Neighborhood Council in the City to vote on a resolution …

Viewing the Solar Eclipse in L.A.

Before sunset Sunday, the Earth's moon will pass in front of the sun, casting a giant shadow across the land.

A solar eclipse is expected to be visible across much of the western U.S. on Sunday, and the Griffith Observatory is planning a public viewing.  In the hours before sunset on Sunday, the Earth's moon will pass in front of the sun – the eclipse will be between 5:24 p.m. and 7:42 p.m. The last solar eclipse visible in the U.S. was in 1994. In Los Angeles, Sunday's eclipse is the most extensive since 1992, according to the observatory. The Griffith Observatory's telescope will be outfitted with special filters, and viewing-glasses will be available for purchase. Torie Osborn Campaigns at PPCC Meeting

The state assembly district candidate shares her views on issues with the Pali Community Council.

Osborn, a Santa Monica resident for 27 years, has worked as a community organizer and a policy adviser to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villariagosa. "It was a painful experience to see the results of 30 years of steady cuts of government and what it was like to be inside the starved beast of government after 30 years of steady erosion," Osborn commented on working in the mayor's office. "I became convinced that we need both serious governance reform and serious tax reform." Questions for Osborn from the community council were on issues that included the state budget, …

'Ramp Jam' Is Coming, Metro Officials Warn

County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Metro officials warn motorists of upcoming ramp closures on the 405 at Wilshire Boulevard.

If you thought Carmageddon was bad, just wait for the "Ramp Jam." So warned Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky at a press conference Friday morning about the impending ramp closures of the 405 Freeway at Wilshire Boulevard. The first of the closures begins June 22, when the westbound Wilshire Boulevard on-ramp to the northbound 405 and the northbound 405 off-ramp to westbound Wilshire Boulevard will be closed for three months. "Yes, you heard me right. Three months," Yaroslavsky told the group of journalists gathered for the conference at the corner of Sepulveda and Wilshire boulevards, where he introduced the new term "Ramp Jam" for the extended closures. The other six on- and off-ramps at the intersection of the freeway will …

Traffic delays and protests are expected during President Barack Obama's short visit to Southern California.

Ahead of President Barack Obama's planned trip to Los Angeles Thursday night, L.A. Councilman Paul Krekorian warned Studio City residents and commuters who travel through that area to expect traffic delays. Obama is attending an evening fundraiser at actor George Clooney's home in the Fryman Canyon neighborhood. The president is scheduled to land at LAX at 6:25 p.m., and is expected to travel by helicopter and motorcade to Clooney's home. His exact route is not being released. Road closures and tight security in the hills could lead to traffic delays on Ventura Boulevard and Laurel Canyon Boulevard north of Ventura Boulevard, Krekorian said. The Department of Transportation and the LAPD were working to minimize traffic impacts in the area…
