The VISION House Los Angeles, a project that is aimed at educating the public on green living, hosts an open house in Pacific Palisades.

A green construction project, called , welcomed Palisadians, builders, media and earth-conscious Angelenos to a lot at the corner of Via De La Paz and Bestor Avenue Thursday. The Pacific Palisades community was invited to take a peek inside the walls of the soon-to-be green home and talk to the builders about the technology that will make it "a vision of the future."

As of Thursday, the house had its frame, some insulation and piping installed. So people could look inside the walls and view the home all the way up to the spray foam insulation on the roof!

Vendors who provided the earth-friendly and energy-efficient technology were on hand to answer questions and provide demonstrations. Representatives from Keyline Sales, who work with Uponor Radiant Heating, showed people how crosslinked polyethylene, or PEX, tubing may be used for plumbing. The tubing is an alternative to copper pipes. According to Jerry West of Keyline Sales, PEX tubing can be installed quite quickly and, unlike copper pipes, does not require an acid clean.

"It's also a tenth of the cost of copper pipes," said West.

LifeSource Water Systems also provided a water tasting for visitors. The system uses high grade Granular Activated Carbon to filter water, according to the company website.

Visitors also got a chance to see what type of tile and flooring were planned for the home. Not to mention, on a 70-degree January day, many guests were found standing outside on the second-story patio. And who could blame them? The sun was shining and you could see the ocean from up there!

Structure Home and Green Builder Media teamed up to develop the VISION House Los Angeles project. The companies say the goal of the home is to "raise awareness, educate and advocate green building within our community and beyond."

The house, when completed will be California ENERGY STAR certified, have Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and will use products that are water efficient.

The VISION House is slated for completion in May of this year.
